Domestic Harmony Mission Statement

 

To provide emergency response and supportive services to those victimized by domestic and sexual violence and to advocate for changes that will break the cycle of violence in our society.


We provide temporary shelter for victims of domestic violence in Hillsdale

County. We also provide free individual and group counseling at our shelter, a 24 hour crisis line, and some legal services.



 

WHAT IS DOMESTIC VIOLENCE?

Domestic Violence is a pattern of emotional, physical and sexual abusive behaviors used by adolescents and adults to control their intimate partners.



Group Counseling Meetings

Group meetings are open to both non-resident and resident victims of domestic violence. We discuss causes of domestic violence, getting free from abuse, life after leaving abuse. You may share your personal experiences or just listen. A regular feature of these meetings are films. These films cover various topics associated with domestic violence. We hold three group meetings every week on:

Tuesday     7-8:30 pm
Wednesday 7-8 pm
Thursday    7-8 pm

Individual Counseling

Counseling is confidential and free. Please call for appointment, let us know if you need childcare. Individual counseling is available at several locations in the county. In addition to our services at the shelter we now have counselor hours in Reading, Camden, Waldron,  Pittsford, Litchfield, Jonesville, and North Adams. Legal Services

Assistance with Personal Protection Orders (PPO),  and other legal advocacy provided free of charge to victims of domestic violence. We have an legal advocate that works both in the Hillsdale Courthouse and in our shelter. To contact the legal advocate at the courthouse call 517 439 1419 ext. 248 and ask for Cheyenne.  Emergency Shelter

We provide a comfortable home environment, with both private and communal living spaces. The daily tasks of household maintenance, such as cooking and cleaning, are shared by the women on a cooperative basis.

Children Services

Children at the shelter benefit from a peaceful environment and participate in support groups as well as a variety of educational and recreational activities. The physical, mental, and emotional health and well-being of children at the shelter is of primary importance.
